History in the Making

History in the making aimed to provide young people who are currently involved in different volunteering schemes to learn from older people who were long standing volunteers in their local community.

Special attention was paid to the history of volunteering that takes place in hospices, residential homes and home based care/befriending in the community.

Young people learnt how to improve their role as volunteers by interviewing those with more experience, researching their history through the use of photographs and artifacts. By creating photographs and stories the participants of the project provided a visual documentation of the importance and meaning of volunteering among a group of diverse age ranges and cultural backgrounds.

The young people created a portfolio and the best interviews, photos and artifacts. A selection of these stories was uploaded on to a website thereby creating an online exhibition that can be ongoing - making the project sustainable after the funding has been finished.
